Your guitar lesson questions, answered
Do I need my own guitar?
You don’t need your own guitar for the taster session—we’ll provide everything you need to get started. However, for regular lessons, having your own guitar is essential so you can practice at home and make steady progress between sessions. If you need help choosing one, we’re happy to guide you!
What do I need to start lessons?
To start lessons, all you need is a guitar and a few plectrums. We recommend having your own guitar so you can practice at home, but if you’re just getting started, we can help guide you on choosing the right one. Plectrums are great for strumming and picking when learning, so make sure to have a few on hand for each lesson!
How long will it take to learn my first song?
The time it takes to learn your first song depends on your starting point, but most beginners can expect to play a simple song within a few lessons. With regular practice, you’ll be able to play basic chords, strumming patterns, and eventually your favorite songs in no time! Everyone learns at their own pace, and we’ll work with you to help you achieve your goals.
Do you teach children or just adults?
At this guitar school, we primarily focus on teaching adults, offering a relaxed and enjoyable learning environment tailored to your needs. While we specialise in adult learners, we can also accommodate younger students on a case-by-case basis. Feel free to get in touch if you have a child interested in lessons!
What if I’ve never played guitar before?
Don’t worry! We specialise in helping beginners get started. Our lessons are designed to be approachable and fun, so you’ll feel confident as you progress.
How often should I practice between lessons?
In a perfect world, daily practice is ideal, but we recognise with busy lives this may not always be possible. Aim for at least 20-30 minutes of practice a few times a week. Consistency is key to making progress, and we’ll provide guidance on what to focus on during your practice time.
Can I learn to play my favorite songs?
Absolutely! We focus on teaching you the music you love. Whether it’s indie, rock, or pop, we’ll help you learn to play the songs you enjoy.
What type of guitar do I need to start?
Any basic acoustic guitar will do to start. If you’re unsure about what to choose, we can help you find the right one based on your goals.
Are the lessons private or group-based?
We offer both one-to-one lessons for personalized instruction and small group lessons for a fun, collaborative learning experience.
What happens if I miss a lesson?
If you can’t attend a lesson, let us know in advance, and we’ll try to reschedule or offer a make-up lesson based on availability.
Do I need any special equipment for lessons?
For lessons, all you’ll need is your guitar and plectrums.
How long is each lesson?
Our lessons are typically 30 or 60 minutes long, depending on your preference and availability.
